Bilateral relations

Bilateral relations between the two countries are very good. They rest on a firm basis of cooperation at various levels, both bilaterally and multilaterally. Singapore's constructive role in ASEAN, its unusual stability and its regional importance make it an important partner for German foreign policy. Singapore is held in high esteem as a motor and mediator in promoting political relations between Europe and Asia.

Germany and Singapore intend to continue to expand their close partnership and to deepen their dialogue on foreign and security policy issues. This is what Foreign Minister Maas and his Singaporean counterpart Balakrishnan stated in September 2018 in their Joint Declaration on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
