Application procedure

Article

Please read the following information to find out whether or not you need a visa and where and how you can apply for a visa.

Do I need a visa?

Singapore citizens in the possession of a valid passport do not need a visa to enter the countries of the Schengen Agreement, including Germany, as tourists or business travellers if they stay not longer than 90 days within 6 months. However, if you would like to work or complete a training programm during this time you will have to apply for a long-term visa (residence permit).

Other nationals might require a visa to enter Germany. To ascertain whether you need a visa please click on the following link for an overview of the countries: List of states

Where to apply for a Schengen Visa?

Please submit your application for a Schengen Visa to the representative of the country which - considering the main purpose of your intended stay - is your main destination. You may find an overview of all missions accredited to Singapore here: www.mfa.gov.sg

If you reside in Singapore and your main destination is Germany or Portugal you have to submit your visa application to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Singapore.

Please note that the German Embassy in Singapore does not accept incomplete applications. If an application is submitted without the required documents for the purpose of travel, the application will be turned down at the visa counter and you will be requested to set a new appointment for your visa interview.

Validity of a Schengen Visa

According to the Schengen agreement, tourist and business visas are valid for travel to all Schengen member states. However, you always have to apply at the embassy of the country which is your main destination.

If you reside in Singapore and your main destination is Germany or Portugal you have to submit your visa application to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Singapore. All applications have to be submitted in person!

Passport requirements (relevant for all types of visa)

The passport must be valid for at least the duration of your trip. However, we recommend to travel with a passport which is valid for at least 3 months counting from the date of anticipated return to Singapore. If you apply for a residence permit for Germany your passport has to extend the duration of the visa you are applying for by at least three months. The passport has to contain at least two blank pages.

Visa appointment (relevant for all types of visa)

To apply for a visa at the German Embassy you need to have an appointment (online booking). There won’t be any exceptions; respective requests via email or phone call will be of no avail!

Please note that each applicant has to book the appointment individually, e.g. a family of four members has to book four appointments. Groups with more than 10 applicants should contact the visa section before booking an appointment. In order to expedite the application process you should check regularly for cancelled appointments.

To re-schedule your appointment to a cancelled time slot please cancel your previous appointment and re-register for the available time. Please make sure that you only book your time slot when you are certain that you can come. Booked but not kept appointments will lead to unnecessary delays for other applicants.
